It's been known for a very long time that Christopher Columbus had absolutely nothing to do with discovering America. Many states don't even recognize this holiday anymore.
Eliminate Columbus day and create a new holiday that pay respect to the service of police officers and firefighters. Just like the members of our armed forces, they protect American citizens and keep us safe. The military has Memorial Day, so police and firefighters should get a day, too.
