In 1937, Franklin Roosevelt (with help from the Knights of Columbus), created Columbus Day to celebrate his discovery of the Americas. Today, we know that this is false. Not only was he not the first here, he wasn't the hero most thought. CC was directly responsible for the enslavement and torture of natives. He was no hero! It is time to remember and celebrate the people that were here before any other: the Indigenous People. The natives of this land deserve much more recognition than the man that helped nearly destroy them.
“COLUMBUS WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE AMERICAN HOLOCAUST, ETHNIC CLEANSING CHARACTERIZED BY MURDER, TORTURE, RAPING, PILLAGING, ROBBERY, SLAVERY, KIDNAPPING, AND FORCED REMOVALS OF INDIAN PEOPLE FROM THEIR HOMELANDS.” Source: American Indian Movement October 2000
