Columbus does not represent the ideals that America stands for. Though it may be true that he was indeed a great sailor, his trail of destruction and death not only pollute the waters through which he sailed, but also the young minds of past and present. Slavery and subjugation, along with the genocide of Native Americans, should not be held to light as a positive example. Christopher Columbus is the exact opposite of what America should stand for.
