The current AFI that covers Military retirement contains wording that is non-mandatory for member serving between 20 and 29 years. This means the government can refuse retirement for any reason or no reason at all if they choose. The AFI currently reads "A member after serving 20 years upon request MAY be retired" Compared to the mandatory language after serving 30 years which reads. "A member after serving 30 years upon his request SHALL be retired"
I believe a military member earns his retirement at 20 years and it should not be taken from him for any reason. If congress can earn a lifetime pension check after 4 years a military member certainly deserves theirs after 20.
This change should be retroactive, any member who has served at least 20 years and not collecting retirement should
