Current U.S. labor law allows children as young as 12 yrs old (and under on small farms) to work unlimited hours on large farms, such as tobacco farms. A recent study (http://reut.rs/1gbfyfw) found that children as young as 7 yrs old working on tobacco farms in NC, KY, TN and VA for excessive hours without breaks in poor conditions, some exhibiting the effects of nicotine poisoning.
21st century America must do better than to permit the exploitation of its children as cheap labor. We ask that the administration create a bill outlawing the use of all child labor under 16 years of age and that all children are protected from working unlimited hours, from working in hazardous conditions and that employers be required to provide them with a specific minimum hourly wage.
