In recognition of the thousands of victims of sexual abuse and harassment every year in the US Armed Forces, it is the obligation of the Obama administration to alter the way in which the military investigates these claims. The current system, in which all complaints must be given directly to a commanding officer, has failed in providing justice to the men and women who have been raped during their times of service. It is completely unacceptable for those who put their lives at risk to protect our country to have to fear for their own well-being among fellow soldiers. All victims of abuse and harassment in the Armed Forces must be allowed to report the crimes directly to investigative services and the military should give very harsh penalties to commanders who hinder investigations.
