Change Election Day to a National Holiday

By changing Election Day to a national holiday, it would encourage voter turnout by allowing people a day to serve their civic duty. As it currently stands, Election Day is a civic holiday which is not observed by every state. In elections past, voter turnout has fluctuated from 68% to as low as 52% of eligible voters casting their ballots, thus in theory allowing as low as 26.5% of the population to elect our president. By making Election Day a national holiday, it would allow people without the flexibility to take time from work, a day to vote and have their voice heard.
