Studies have shown that children and teens need a least 8-10 hours of sleep, which is made nearly impossible by how early school starts. Because of the way kids' bodies develop from ages 13-19, their biological sleep cycle is late-sleep, late-rise. When schools changed their start time to 8:30 or later, there were higher attendance rates, less sleeping in class, a lower rate of student depression, and less behavioral problems in school and at home.
