Dogs and cats in shelters only get 72 hours before they are euthanized. Shelters, though, are only required to stay open for 4 hours at least 3 days a week. It’s not fair if an animal is left at a shelter’s steps because it was unwanted and then the 72 hours it has to live the shelter is closed. These laws need to be changed to give all animals a chance at a better life by expanding the time span to at least 2 weeks. Also shelters should be open 8-10 hours for 6 days a week so people may visit. Another initiative that should be passed is having younger dogs be trained as police dogs, guide dogs, etc. In a 2013 survey by Pet360; 99.4% of respondents claimed that their pet was considered a family member. Anyone deserves a second chance weather they have two legs or four.
