Change FASFA policy for people who have experienced extreme hardship & have defaulted loans so they can return to school

Created by Y.J. on March 07, 2014

I am currently a single mother. I chose to have one child while in my 20s, pursuing a career. I didn't know a hospital would give me a deadly bacteria. I lost everything as a result of the disability from the bacteria. I started over & decided to finish school. I began school not realizing my child would have further complications & school became impossible. It has been 3 years that I haven't been in school. My loans are in default. I have been unable to find work because my child needed full attention. I tried part time work but it has not been enough. Now that my child is stable, it has become impossible to get back to school because of issues with student loans. I'm asking for FASFA policies to change so people with default loans as a result of extreme difficulties can return to school.
