Right now it is legal for employers to schedule employees an unlimited number of hours without being required to permit a break. Employers are also permitted to change an employee's schedule without notice or consent from the employee. We petition that laws be put in place requiring employers to grant a meal break (unpaid or otherwise) for shifts longer than eight hours, and for notice to be given to employees prior to a schedule change. If no such notice is received, the employee in question should be able to refuse to work without fear of losing their job.
