Federal law prohibits blocking or scrambling a cell phone signal, even inside a prison. This law needs to be changed to allow blocking of cell phone signals inside a prison.
Prison guards routinely search for cell phones. Because a cell phone is so small, they are easy to conceal or hide. Prisoners are using cell phones to conduct criminal activity from behind bars. This activity includes ordering their associates to conduct a "hit" (murder). Prisoners have even used cell phones to execute their escape plans. A prisoner in Texas even used a cell phone to threaten a Texas state Senator when he didn't get what he wanted.
Changing the federal law would eliminate this major problem within our prison system. Simply allow US prisons to block cell phone signals INSIDE the prison.
