It is the goal of this petition to change the law and put the power of government back into the hands of "we the people". All chief law enforcement officials, Chief's of Police, Police Commissioner or Officers in Charge of any local, county, municipal state or multi-state police agencies should be elected. This will allow for independent decisions and hold these persons in charge accountable to the public. A change of this nature will further prevent or reduce the appearances of impropriety which are common of appointed individuals. It will force the person in charge to abide by the law or face removal and possible criminal prosecution. It will further prevent or reduce the political nature of many criminal investigations.
