The federal poverty guideline that is currently being used to decide who gets assistance with things like food, and shelter is 45 years old! A family of 4 who makes more than $22,350 a year is considered living above poverty. Current standards would make that number $52,00 a year!
When we are told the number of poverty stricken families in the U.S., they are only looking at families below those annual incomes. What is the actual number of people who need assistance, but cannot get it?!
We NEED to have those guidelines changed!! Children and adults are literally starving!
