It seems that lately we get hung up on the issue over gay marriage. However, I think if we just think of it slightly different we might be able to find a win-win solution.
From a government perspective, I believe we should change the government word of marriage to partnerships. Regardless of whether your same-sex or opposite-sex couples, if the government recognized it all as partnerships, it would afford the same rights to all groups (tax purposes, inheritance, survivor benefits, etc).
Instead of filing for a marriage license, file for a partnership license.
The church is never going to accept same sex marriage, so change the government definition so we can have all have equal rights under the law; the point of the government last I checked.
