We should modify Independence Day to the first Friday of July. When we were an agrarian society, celebrating Independence Day on July 4 was not a problem for most people. Even if that day was Wednesday. Now we are an industrial society, it makes more sense to have the first Friday of July as Independence Day thus giving a 3 day celebration ending on Sunday. As Independence was declared on July 2, 1776 and the Declaration of Independence was approved on July 4, 1776 and first read in public on July 8, 1776, the first Friday of July would be a proper day to commemorate our independence.
