Change laws on criminal record background screening for jobs and higher education programs.

Created by L.M. on January 11, 2013

Many individuals that made mistakes as teens or young adults are discriminated as rehabilitated law abiding adults because of their criminal record. This petition ask for government to revise the criminal question on job applications to a question that focuses on nature of crime and time elapse since the offense was committed.
Most of these individuals that are eager to get a job or attend certain universities find themselves discriminated once they answer "yes" on the background check question. As a result many suffer from anxiety, insomnia, and a form of PTSD as they feel hopelessness in their attempt to become a contributing member of society. Most of these individuals committed non-violent, non-sexual misdemeanor offenses over one decade ago. Yet their past is holding them back!
