Currently, if a married couple both serve in our military or federal government until a time at which they recieve a retiremnet benefit and then persue a career as a civilian when they retire they may each recieve a social security check and a federal retirement check. However, if one of them should pass away the surviving spouse does not recieve the benefits of the deceased spouse. The law states that any one person can only recieve 2 federal checks. This injustice penalizes the individuals whom have served this country by not allowing them to recieve the benefits earned by their spouse like a non veteran would be able to. The law limiting individuals to recieveing 2 federal checks needs to have an exemption for the surviving spouses of military or federal service members
