The current voting system is not representative of the population. There are 2 main parties, and one of the two will always win. For a more representative system, the United States should use the Instant Runoff system of voting, described in this video:

In short, this system lets voters rank the candidates in order of what they want.
The Instant Runoff system would:
-Be easy to implement, there would not need to be any major changes in how voting is set up.
-Allow a possibility of a popular 3rd party winning without fear of splitting the vote for one of the major parties.
-Always end with a candidate that the majority of people are content with.
