Change mandatory minimum sentences

I believe that the use of mandatory minimum sentences are unreasonable, and they should be amended, if not abolished completely. Many of the mandatory minimum sentences are out dated and/or do not take individual circumstances into account when sentencing. For example, the first offense of manufacturing, distributing, possessing with the intent to distribute certain amounts of controlled substances, when no death or serious injuries are involved, carries a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years, while the sentence for treason is only five years.
