Change media ownership rules (particularly regarding television stations) to better protect the public interest

Created by T.H. on April 12, 2013

Changes need to be made to the FCC's media ownership rules regarding broadcast television to serve the public interest by requiring station owners to adhere to ownership caps within individual media markets, as well as market reaches throughout the United States. This includes disallowing the control of more than two full-power stations in a single market, forbidding operational agreements that serve as loopholes for owners to run full-power stations they can not legally own in a particular media market and placing more scrutiny on whether proxy companies used to run stations in such a manner are in effect, controlled by a particular owner. This is to ensure diversity in television broadcasting, especially in news programming.
