By signing this petition, you are helping to fight the negative stigma attached to the acronym IBD or Inflammatory Bowel Disease. IBD's are Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's Disease, chronic auto-immune diseases which cause all sorts of symptoms including rectal bleeding, frequent and long bathroom trips, often times can lead to surgery for many, and chronic pain.
Unfortunately, the term IBD is similar to IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which is far more common and less troubling, less serious. With IBS, there are no such physical changes to your digestive system as there are with IBD.
When people hear the term IBD, they automatically think IBS, which makes UC/Crohn's come across as trivial and not a big deal. Please help us change the term IBD by signing this petition, it's hurting us.
