I found Mr. Dubois' response to be rather unsatisfactory. He used the president's inaugural address where the president made mention of the differing religious backgrounds of the citizens of the United States to help build the importance of religion to the United States as a whole saying that we are proud of our heritage. However, "In God we trust" is not inclusive for all of the citizens. It implies that as Americans, we must trust in God. It excludes those who do not believe in any god, whereas "E pluribus unum" includes everyone and includes not only religions, but also our different cultures.
