For years now we have had a day to celebrate Christopher Columbus's "discovery" of America, celebrating a man who enslaved thousands of the native inhabitants of the land he took for Spain. Ironically enough, Columbus was not even the first European to discover the Americas. It is time for us to start celebrating a man who does not deserve it. This is why we petition to change the name of Columbus Day to Discovery Day to celebrate the discovery of the America's instead of celebrating Christopher Columbus.
