change the name of the country Niger to stop children from laughing when they see it on a map or globe

The independent African nation of Niger has seen its growth and development retarded by its unfortunate name, a relic of colonialism and racism. It is estimated by myself that the number of children who laugh and nudge each other when their 6th-grade social studies teacher reads the country's name from a list of African countries is approaching 900,000 per year. Many of these children will grow up to be future business leaders, investors and job creators, who will recall Niger, a country with a vibrant culture situated in the heart of Africa, with nothing more than derision and scorn. It is time for this 'joke' among nations to enter the dustbin of history. From now on, let Niger be known as Gaye, a Hausa word meaning demonstration, to demonstrate to the world Niger's bright future!
