Let's face it, the "United States of America" is a worldwide symbol for being a Republic dedicated to ideals and goals of men from a bygone age. Not only has technology and culture made massive advancements since then, even the very Constitution that was drafted to protect the government that those men set up has been altered, not just by amendment but by Constitutional Law in the intervening two-plus centuries.
Even our elected representatives in both parties are recognizing the change and in many cases embracing it. Pretty much the only reason we still hold on to Republicanism is because of nationalistic adherence to a name and the symbolism of that name.
