The name the Department of Defense for a department that oversees offensive military operations as well as defensive ones is misleading to the American people. Using a word with a positive connotation only alludes to half of the department's job. The Department of War, as a I propose it should be renamed, was the original name for this department. This name is more fitting than the Department of Defense because this department supports offensive military operations as well. The main benefit to this change is that it removes the cushy, positive connotation of defense. Who doesn't want to be defended? This should decrease support for military spending increases that are needless and promote our offensive military capabilities, and change the American view of this department.
