Change the name of Robert E. Lee Memorial Park (MD) to Lake Roland.

Created by J.L. on September 01, 2014

We, the undersigned, demand the name of Robert E. Lee Memorial Park (Maryland) be officially changed to Lake Roland.
If MD is indeed “The Free State”, we feel the honor bestowed upon Lee in the park’s name is grossly incongruous.
Lee’s history weighs heavily against the case for honoring him – he recaptured escaped slaves, opposed the right to vote for freed blacks, and noted the inferiority of the black race.
As Robert E. Lee Park is a city/county park, please note (2010 Census): MD = 30% black population. Baltimore = 63.7% black population.
The indignity of honoring Lee, to this population, is a slap in the face to their forebears & offspring.
We ask that The White House, in cooperation with city/county governments, address this injustice and change the name accordingly to Lake Roland.
