Since the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492, Native Americans have been disrespected and marginalized by referring to them collectively as Indians. The wrongs perpetrated by Europeans against the indigenous peoples in the Americas can never be undone. However, our government should stop adding insult to injury by continuing to refer to the remaining native peoples by the incorrect and discriminatory term "Indians". Please join me in urging our administration to show the proper respect and rename these two departments the Bureau of Native American Affairs and the Bureau of Native American Education.
