The Star-Spangled Banner is about a military battle. Sure, it's about a military victory of the United States over the British, but it's still a song about violence, battle, and death.
After watching Denise Richards, mother of the youngest victim of last year's bombing at the Boston Marathon, standing in the rain today watching the flag being raised and listening to the lyrics "The bombs bursting in air," it has come to my attention that we need a change for our national anthem.
What better choice, then, than America the Beautiful, a song which celebrates the natural and human beauty of our country, brotherhood, liberty, nobleness?
