In recent years, many societal issues have been thrust into the spotlight. Race relations, police relations, and what it means to be a patriot are all frequent topics of conversation. A few weeks ago, NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick began a protest that has spread across the country. He, and others like him, will not stand for the national anthem until it stands for them. It is no secret that our current anthem had explicitly racist verses when it was written, and with the number of unarmed black people killed everyday by police, this country needs a song it can truly stand behind. That song is Close Your Eyes by Run the Jewels. It captures the American spirit and truly encapsulates what it means to be an American of any color in this day and age.
