Change the National Anthem to Katharine Lee Bates' "America the Beautiful"

Created by B.M. on April 29, 2015

The time has come for We the People to take a stand and change the National Anthem from the "Star Spangled Banner" to "America the Beautiful". Francis Scott Key was a known slave owner, which just glorifies one of the darkest periods in our history. It is also written about a British attack, one of our closest allies. Bates' patriotic song it much more appropriate because of her personal life and the lyrics that exemplify our awe-inspiring landscape. It was originally intended to be the anthem, but lost only when President Hoover took it out of the People's hands and declared the "Star Spangled Banner" the anthem. Let's get the power back to the People and make this change!
