The Star Spangled Banner has been the National Anthem since 1931 based on a poem written in 1814. I feel it is time we found an anthem that is easier to sing by singers of all levels and that reflects the country as it is today. Kanye West's Gold Digger is the song I feel best fits these criteria. While the Star Spangled Banner is a song about the War of 1812 it speaks mostly about battle and uses outdated worlds like O'er. In comparison Gold Digger deals with the issues we face today in the 21st century. Should we get a prenup before marrying someone who seems to be drawn to you because of your financial status? Should we make sure child support reaches our children and is not used to improve our ex's appearance. It also addresses the desire for many American's to legalize marijuana.
