change the national conversation from how much federal taxes people pay to how much income a household has left over

Created by J.G. on January 22, 2013

Why should the rich be the only ones allowed to invest money?

There is enough income every year for every household in America to receive $100,000, and yet most of this money winds up in the hands of a very small fraction of the population.

The rich make the argument that they pay far more taxes. But most discussions leave out local and state taxes. And most importantly, if you were to subtract the poverty line from every income (in order to determine resources left to reinvest after basic living expenses), the top 1% bracket has 70% of their income to waste or invest, versus 30% or less for the bottom two brackets.

Arguments that these bottom brackets will simply waste the extra money belies the fact that the top brackets can afford to (and do) waste far more of their income.
