This petition asks that the second Saturday in November become the new national election day, to allow a more equal opportunity for all people to reach the polls. The current national election day is set as the first Tuesday following a Monday in November. While there are many options for people who may not be able to make it to the polls on Tuesday, they are not entirely effective and wide-reaching as a democratic country should strive for. Changing the election day to a Saturday would allow for greater poll access to lower income people, who may not be able to devote the time to take off work or to work on an alternative means to vote as people with disposable income. It would also be a more convenient way for people who may not want to take the time off work the opportunity to vote.
