The current national voting age of 18 years limits about 10 million American citizens who are of the age of 16 and 17. This would be crucial to the election of all candidates in the future. My rationale is that if 16 year olds can drive a car why should a 16 year old not be able to vote? If 16 year olds can get a job why are they not allowed to vote? If 16 year olds pay taxes for their jobs why can they not vote? Why should working teenager’s have to pay taxes if they are not allowed to vote. As James Otis said around 1761, “Taxation without representation is tyranny.” There are plenty of people that I know that are 30 or above who should not vote but still can. That is why I think people of 16 and 17 years of age should be able to vote.
