E pluribus unum (One out of many) was adopted by congress in 1782 and was the de facto motto of the US later replaced by congress in 1956 by "In God We Trust". As a non-secular nation and by following the 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States which reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." we should not have any mention of "God" on currency.
