Given that our national anthem should be as inclusive as possible, should be easy to sing, and should express commonly held ideals, and given that our current anthem is 1) beyond the vocal range of most singers, 2) that its lyrics are difficult to remember, 3) that the origin of its melody is not American, but English, and 4) that its lyrics are about war and uncertainty, we petition our leaders in government to change our national anthem from The Star-Spangled Banner to America the Beautiful.
America the Beautiful is a song that is familiar to many, is easy to sing, and is American in origin. More importantly, the song's lyrics express appreciation for our country's beauty, and hope for brotherhood — values that are shared by all of us.
