Charter schools were once a place meant for self-motivated students to thrive, but all too readily have become the easy way out for kids. Strict regulations and close monitoring would be needed to ensure that students who do choose Cyber School are actually benefiting from it. Not only that, but I propose that requirements would need to be met to qualify, such as GPA and attendance.
In a recent article about online learning, The New York Times stated, “Nearly 60 percent of its students are behind grade level in math. Nearly 50 percent trail in reading. A third do not graduate on time. And hundreds of children, from kindergartners to seniors, withdraw within months after they enroll.”
