Military retirees who retired before Aug. 1, 2009, are not allowed to transfer Post 9/11 GI Bill education benefits to qualified spouses and children (Section 3319, Chapter 33, Title 38, United States Code). Military families are an essential part of a service member's successful career and would benefit greatly from a revision of this policy. Likewise, the money set aside for these benefits would be reinvested in the towns, cities and states that support retirees and their families. Military families shouldn't be penalized because of an arbitrary date and the Defense Departmemt shouldn't be allowed to benefit from collecting benefits that go unpaid because of an unfair policy. The service/sacrifice of service members and families who retired before 2009 should get equal consideration.
