Change the law to create a new category called “Semi-Elected Public Servant" which will apply exclusively to Law Enforcement Officers. A Semi-Elected Public Servant (Law Enforcement Officer) will be hired via the normal hiring process for a given agency. However, if a Law Enforcement Officer commits a 'Triggering Event' then their continued employment will be put on the ballot for public vote at the next regularly scheduled election within their jurisdiction
Triggering Events:
1) Law Enforcement Officer kills someone in the line of duty
2) Law Enforcement Officer is the cause of and/or a defendant in a lawsuit that results in a judgment or settlement that is more than five times their salary
They will be fired immediately following the election unless they get a majority of the vote.
