change survivor death payment under Social Security, now $255, to one additional month of the deceased person's benefit.

Created by D.K. on March 14, 2014

The current survivor death benefit paid to the survivor of a person on Social Security, who then has died, is a mere $255. You might be able to afford a pillow in a casket for that amount. This benefit needs to be adjusted to actually be a benefit, not just a token. This proposal allows the one time death benefit to equal one additional month of the deceased person's Social Security payment. This would allow the family to have a better chance at a proper burial or cremation for the deceased person. It still would not be enough, but it would at least be somewhat reasonable and fair.
