Current federal law saddles the tax payer with charges, interest and fines if there are errors on a tax return even if a paid professional preparer is the one who did the tax return on a clients behalf. The law should hold the professional tax preparer accountable for paying the IRS if an audit finds the tax payer's return in error. People pay good money to have this burden done for them and should not have to worry that an individual, company or software will result in financial burden they alone must repay.
