The majority of wealth is not in earnings, but in other assets. The wealthiest individuals do not always have the highest salaries; by raising taxes on capital gains, dividends, etc. we can generate much more revenue than by cutting spending (by the way, Social Security and Medicare should not be considered "entitlements" - just look at your paycheck deductions.) Let the Bush era tax cuts expire, but not UI benefits, etc. The national conversation has been hijacked by special interests and plutocrats; we must concentrate on creating jobs and on raising revenue through responsible taxation. An emphasis on deficit reduction is not wise in a recession; we must spend our way out of this responsibly and not forget the most vulnerable in our society.
