Recent extreme weather has forced many schools and businesses to shut down and declare snow days. The "snow day" is an outdated term based on the premise that snow is the cause of these closings. The recent polar vortex that swept through this great nation has shown that a "snow day" can occur when no snow has fallen from the sky but instead when the temperature and wind chill create dangerous conditions for Americans to be outdoors. That is why this petition is so important. We must rid this beautiful country of an outdated phrase like "snow day" and replace it with the more appropriate term: the "wintervention." This broader term is a more inclusive, truly American way of looking at schools and businesses closing during the winter season.
