Change the title of "Columbus Day" into "Washington Day", in honor of our 1st President George Washington

Created by K.K. on March 24, 2015

Change the national holiday of "Columbus Day" into being called "Washington Day" in honor our 1st President and perhaps most influential and iconic founding fathers.

George Washington set many precedents as our first president; Was Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during our Revolution; Submitted to the first non-violent shift of power in a Government at the time; Considered by many to be the father of our nation and he deserves a day to honor him

Christopher Columbus does not deserve a holiday for discovering the Americas. Columbus himself died believing he had truly found a trade route to East Asia (hence his naming of Native Americans as "Indians", after the country of India). Columbus was a bigot, and was violent and torturous to many Native Americans and enslaved many.
