In our “one person, one vote” election system, voters are compelled to vote for a candidate that can beat the worst of the opposition, rather than the one most qualified to be our representative. This has given the two most historically successful political parties near complete control of our government, and created a polarized political culture that makes compromise and cooperation impossible, and congressional paralysis inevitable.
To end this, we petition congress to replace the election method currently used in congressional elections with 'approval voting,' which permits voting for multiple candidates, and elects the candidate receiving the most votes. This will stop the rampant spread of extremism and partisan aggression while encouraging a more diverse political dialogue.
