Animals raised for our consumption are kept in atrocious conditions. The lack of humanity involved in practices such as factory farming is truly alarming. We put so much energy keeping animals we keep as pets safe from cruelty, yet we ignore the well-being of animals that we consume. Not only is this carelessness harming the animals involved, but it is also damaging the health of the American people. The cruelty of factory farming and other thoughtless agricultural practices has lead to severe health issues across the nation, such as mad cow disease. I petition the Obama administration to take a closer look at how the the meat the people of this nation eat is being raised. We need our government to be responsive to the health of our nation and protect these animals from such atrocities.
