I understand that the term "redskins" is derogatory, but ultimately it's just a word. Yes, there are some fans that dress up as Native Americans, but it's not like we're dancing and chanting like Native Americans. The team's original head coach, Lone Star Dietz, was part Sioux. George Marshall decided to change the team's name to honor him. The Atlanta Braves fans, however, perform the Tomahawk Chop. If you don't know what that is, it's when Atlanta Braves fans do a Native American chant while waving their arms up and down as if they were swinging a tomahawk. I think they need to leave the Washington Redskins and concentrate on preventing the active racism at Turner Field during 81 games during the season.
