There is no excuse for the wasting of tens of billions of tax payers dollars over a strictly ideological and political issue that the majority of the country was against.
It's bad enough that the hard right GOP refuses to do anything constructive for the American people but they should at least be responsible for the damages caused. It's time they start serving we-the-people instead of just themselves and their donors.
There needs to be made a public list of those directly responsible for shutting down the government along with a bill of how much they each owe back to the tax-payers. The negative press would be some consequences for their actions and hopefully prevent it from happening again.
Also, change the name of the "Debt Ceiling" to "Due and payable upon Receipt" so they get it.
